Trauma Counselling
Trauma generally falls into three main categories…
1. Acute trauma results from a single incident.
2. Chronic trauma is repeated and prolonged such as domestic violence or abuse.
3. Complex trauma is exposure to varied and multiple traumatic events, often of an invasive, interpersonal nature.
The”Gold Standard” for trauma therapy is Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)
Cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT)
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) focuses on challenging and changing cognitive distortions and maladaptive behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies that target solving an identified issue. CBT is used in the treatment of depression, anxiety, alcohol and drug use problems, marital problems and eating disorders for example.
